RESPONSE
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust has not been commissioned to provide stop smoking services – there has been an internal stop smoking team available at the trust since March 2018 .

o If confirm, please list (i) the relevant therapies included on your formularies, (ii) the first-line therapy recommended and (iii) the main form of treatment received by patients
RESPONSE
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust includes Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) on its formulary and is widely available throughout the hospital.
The NRT we have available are Patches 15mg and 25mg , Inhalator15mg, Quickmist 1mg , lozenge 2 and 4mg and Gum in a variety of strengths.
The NRT is recommended depending on patient choice , Patches are recommended alongside a second product where appropriate.
The treatment received by patients is , bed side support / guidance /BA / NRT as required and offer of ongoing support in the community on discharge.
3) Please confirm or deny if you have on-site shops selling a) licensed nicotine-replacement therapies, b) unlicensed quitting aids and c) e-cigarettes
RESPONSE
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust does not have any shops on site selling any of the above.
4) Please confirm or deny if you have policies in place to implement NICE guideline PH48, Smoking: acute, maternity and mental health services, with regards to recommendations for:
a. Ensuring immediate access to stop smoking pharmacotherapies and a range of licensed nicotine-replacement therapies for patients who smoke
b. Ensuring the sale of stop smoking pharmacotherapies and licensed nicotine-replacement therapies in hospital shops
c. Ensuring care pathways deliver continuity between hospital and primary care stop smoking services (including any referral pathways)
d. Encouraging patients using unlicensed quitting aids to switch to licensed quitting aids
o If confirm for any of the above, please share the current policy
RESPONSE
a) East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust has an inpatient team that works to support any patients that are identified as current / or recent ex-smokers and can patients can be prescribed NRT .
b) NRT is not currently available to buy in the Hospital shops.
c) Referral pathways are in place to offer continued support for stop smoking services / providers / pharmacy following an admission , Community stop smoking service can also liaise with the hospital inpatient team if they require a patient following up for support. An Internal referral / identification process is also in place at East Lancashire Hospital NHS Trust for any patients identified as current smokers.
d) Any patient identified as using unlicensed products are offered referral to the inpatient team and also to use NRT .
