What is staff bank?
To supplement our permanent team and help with peaks and troughs we have a team of 'bank staff' who provide cover for planned and unplanned shortfalls in staffing, covering vacancies and staff absences as well as bringing specific required skills for short periods of time.
Currently, we recruit for:
- Healthcare workers
- Qualified nurses (Band 5)
- Portering and logistics
- General facilities staff
We offer ad hoc, flexible shifts that can work with personal circumstances and commitments. Once on the bank register, you will be contacted with details of the shifts available which you can then book yourself onto.
Working in such a varied area can be challenging but it also offers fantastic opportunities and experience to those that wish to develop their skills and knowledge.
Staff Bank working will suit you if:
- You are looking for more flexible working to help you achieve a better work/life balance
- You wish to work in an area of the NHS where there are no current permanent roles
- You want to earn extra money
- You are returning to work after a career break or wishing to continue to work post retirement
- You wish to try out working for the Trust
The benefits of working for the Staff Bank include:
- First choice of bank shifts
- Flexible work opportunities to suit you – either full or part time
- Access to free mandatory training opportunities and the chance to increase your skills
- Paid annual leave
- Competitive rates of pay
- Treated as equal to an internal applicant if you want to apply for permanent jobs in the Trust.
How do I join?
To ensure quality of care and that our standards are maintained, it is essential that all individuals selected to join the bank register meet the same criteria as a substantive post holder.
An external applicant wishing to join the staff bank register will be required to complete a full application form and will be interviewed by a panel.
In addition, the Trust will carry out all the required pre and post appointment checks including a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as appropriate.
Once you have been successful at selection stage and are invited to join the staff bank register, you will need to pay the cost of the DBS check which is currently £48; in order for us to progress your application.
Please note, if there is not a current vacancy this means that we currently have sufficient workers on our staff bank. However as the situation can quickly change we recommend that you visit the site on a regular basis or, if you set up an account with us, we will automatically send you an email when a suitable opportunity arises.
If you are currently employed by us and wish to join the staff bank you will be required to submit an application, counter-signed by your line manager.
Please e-mail Bankstaff.firstname.lastname@example.org and we will send an internal application form to you or download the form from our intranet site.
What happens when I am accepted?
Once all the pre-employment checks are completed, all staff bank workers must attend the Trust's corporate induction which covers all the mandatory training. You may also be offered the chance to complete further training packages to help you in your work and support and further your career.
You will be provided with a uniform if appropriate and we will ensure that you understand exactly how to book your shifts.
There are a variety of shifts and wards covering 24/7 Monday to Sunday.
How do I get shifts?
We have a self-rostering system that allows you access and the ability to book available shifts for your specific skill set. You are able to choose those shifts that suit your working pattern by logging on with your own unique passcode.
