Joining the bank register

To supplement our existing team and to help with peaks and troughs, we have a team of bank colleagues who provide cover for planned and unplanned shortfalls in staffing. The purpose is to cover vacancies and absences as well as bringing in specific, required skills for short periods of time.

It is a fantastic option if you are looking for more flexible working or if you wish to work in a particular area of the organisation where there are no permanent roles. It is also a great way to earn extra money or to get back into work after a career break or post retirement.

The roles available on bank include:

  • Healthcare workers
  • Qualified nurses (Band 5)
  • Portering and logistics
  • General facilities staff
  • Catering

Why join the bank register?

There are many benefits to joining the bank. We offer ad hoc, flexible shifts that complement your personal circumstances and commitments. Once on the bank register, you will be contacted with details of the shifts available which you can then book yourself onto as and when you want.

Other benefits include:
  • Paid annual leave - you gain an extra 12.5% in lieu of annual leave
  • Zero hour contracts to enable flexible working
  • Access to free mandatory training opportunities and the chance to increase your skills
  • Chance to join WageStream, a brand new financial wellbeing app where you can claim 50% of your wage once the shift has been worked, instead of waiting for payday
  • Treated equal to an internal colleague if you want to apply for a permanent role.

How do I join?

To ensure quality of care and that our standards are maintained, it is essential that all individuals selected to join the bank register meet the same criteria as a substantive post holder.

If you are an external applicant wishing to join the bank register, you will be required to complete a full application form and will be interviewed by a panel.

The Trust will carry out all the required pre and post appointment checks including a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as appropriate.

Once you have been successful at selection stage and are invited to join the staff bank register, you will need to pay the cost of the DBS check which is currently £48; in order for us to progress your application.

Please note, if there is not a current vacancy this means that we currently have sufficient workers on our staff bank. As the situation can quickly change, we recommend that you visit the site on a regular basis or, if you set up an account with us, we will automatically send you an email when a suitable opportunity arises.

If you are currently employed at the Trust and wish to join the bank you will be required to submit an application, counter-signed by your line manager.

Please e-mail Bankstaff.recruitment@elht.nhs.uk and we will send an internal application form to you or download the form from our intranet site.
