Dr Amitava Sur completed his primary medical education and specialist training in paediatrics from India. He then completed a Neonatal –perinatal fellowship program from one of the largest tertiary neonatal units in Canada, the BC Children’s Hospital, Vancouver in 2015. He moved to the UK in 2015 when he joined the Wessex-Oxford neonatal fellowship program and worked as senior clinical fellow in the Princess Anne neonatal unit at Southampton. He has been a consultant at ELHT since 2017. His main interest lies in clinical research and evidence based medicine and this has led to several publications in peer-reviewed journals and international conference papers. He has liaison with University of Central Lancashire and is involved in international projects with university research groups. One of his key areas of focus is quality improvement in preterm care. He has introduced and championed the use of customised resuscitation trolley for deferred cord clamping and use of NIPPV as a modality of respiratory support in the neonatal unit. He also has an interest in cardiology and neonatal hemodynamics and has had formal training in functional echocardiography.
