Hospital Bag: What to pack for labour and delivery
Items to pack in your hospital bag
For you
- Maternity notes
- Comfortable clothing – nightwear/slippers/flip flops/dressing gown (and comfortable clothing to go home)
- Maternity pads
- Large comfortable underwear
- Healthy snacks/drinks
- Any medications you are currently taking
- Washbag and toiletries
- Electronic devices (phone, iPad) magazines/books
- Large bath towel
- Loose change – you may need it for parking and/or vending machine for snacks
- A TENS machine and batteries if you want to use one as the hospital do not provide these
If you’re planning to breastfeed, add;
- Nursing bras
- Breast pads
- Front-opening night dress or pyjama top
(If you plan to bottle feed baby via formula, remember to bring ready-made formula starter pack – there are no facilities to use powder formula/sterilisation of bottles).
For baby
- Sleepsuits
- Hats
- Vests
- Scratch mittens
- Blankets
- Muslins
- Nappies
- Cotton wool balls or pads
