How to prevent hospital related deconditioning
Keeping your loved ones active and what to bring
Helpful information about keeping active in hospital
When you have a loved on in hopsital, it's important for them to keep as active as possible - and you can help when you visit them.
To help your loved one to remain active while they're admitted to hsopital, there are a number of things you can do, including encouraging and helping them to sit up out of bed, getting washed and dressed and walking to the bathroom.
Getting dressed instead of staying in nightwear, can also help patients maintain a sense of independance and normality while they're away from home.
Here are some things you could bring from home which would be useful for your loved one if they don't already have them with them in hospital:
- Their own clothes (both day and nightwear)
- Suitable footwear (flat, full shoe/slipper)
- Hearing aids and glasses if needed
- Walking aids (stick, zimmer frame)
- Toiletries (labelled with your name)
