Who we are
The East Lancashire TB Service provides specialist nursing care to support patients and their families in the community and promote compliance with TB treatment.
What our role involves
- Assessing and monitoring patients with active and multi-drug resistant TB and supporting at home to complete treatment
- Running nurse led TB clinics alongside the Consultants to assess, diagnose and prescribe treatment for latent TB cases
- Providing screening for TB contacts and all “high risk” groups based on NICE guidelines in a clinic or community setting
- Offering BCG vaccination to eligible children who have missed the vaccine at birth
- Assisting Public Health England in planning and managing mass TB screening programmes in schools or the community
- Providing data for Public Health England and presenting cases at the North West TB Control Board cohort reviews
- Liaising with GPs, social care, community drug and alcohol teams and other agencies to support vulnerable TB patients
- Education and targeted health promotion to raise awareness and address the stigma associated with TB
- Working with other agencies to develop services for “hard to reach” groups in the community
