The team provide care and support for children, young people and their families from diagnosis/referral including investigations, treatment and education.  We see patients in a variety of settings including clinic, home, school/nursery and on the Children's Unit.

The Respiratory Service is part of the Cystic Fibrosis Transpennine Group and works closely with clinicians/professionals in other hospitals in the region.  We aim to deliver Safe, Personal and Effective care at all times.

We are committed to:

  • providing a first-class clinical service to all children and young people under our care
  • approaching each child/young person as an individual, utilising the skills of the whole team to provide holistic care
  • ensuring all our clinical staff are experienced specifically in the care of children and young people
  • organising our services around the needs of children, young people and their families, as far as possible
  • listening to our patients and adapting to their needs
  • fostering a learning environment, to support the educational development of our own staff and other professionals

At the children's respiratory clinic, your child will be looked after by a team of specialists who are trained in caring for children and young people with respiratory conditions.  This may include spirometry, lung function and FeNO testing, as well as taking a full history, completing ACT score, devising a Personal Asthma Action Plan and checking inhaler technique, therefore your appointment may take some time.
