The purpose of this page is to provide information about your orthosis and when this may need replacing, or when you may need a review appointment.
There are several factors that can determine if you need a review of your orthosis. Please see the list below and contact the Orthotic Department should any of these apply to you.
Wounds
If you have noticed any red marking that lasts for 30 minutes after the orthosis has been removed. Or if the orthosis has caused any rubbing/blisters or callousing.
Change in condition
- If you have noticed a change to your foot position or walking pattern.
- If you are now struggling to apply the orthosis.
- If pain has increased.
- If you have had any surgery or change in medication that affects your lower limbs.
- If you have change shoe size/width due to swelling and can no longer wear the orthosis
If your orthosis is worn or in need of repairing, please note this does not require an appointment and can be dropped into the department, or if unsure and you would like to send pictures of the Orthosis then please do so to orthotics@elht.nhs.uk with your name and RXR number.
Is my AFO the correct size?
The toes should not be at the end of the AFOs.
The AFOs should not be too short on the leg.
Is my insole the correct size?
Insoles should end at the ball of the foot.
If your insole is full length, the toes should not be at the ends.
