Two sisters from Darwen delivered their babies on the same night at Blackburn Birth Centre on Wednesday night/Thursday morning.

Libby Harris, 20, and her sister Lacey, 16, gave birth within five hours of each other in neighbouring rooms, leaving family members rushing between birthing rooms.

Lacey gave birth to daughter Lola-Mae, weighing 6lbs 4oz, at 11.42pm on Wednesday, followed by Libby whose son Joshua, arrived at 4:50am on Thursday morning weighing 6lbs 12 oz.

Gillian Brandon, Senior Midwife at Blackburn Birth Centre who looked after both mums and babies, said: "An unusual but exciting time for both the sisters and the staff involved.

"We send our best wishes to the sisters, their little ones and the family."

Libby and Lacey were born and raised in East Lancashire and live together in the Blacksnape area of Darwen.

Libby said: "It was so lovely to go through the pregnancy together – sharing all the experiences of new mums but being extra special as we’re sisters.”

Lola-Mae and Joshua are the first children for beaming mums Lacey and Libby who, along with Joshua’s dad, Jack Gaskell, were all smiles today despite being extremely tired.

In a Facebook post thanking birth centre staff, a delighted dad Jack Gaskell said: “I can’t thank you enough for bringing Joshua James Gaskell into the world, our little man is the most gorgeous and beautiful person I have ever set my eyes on.”
