The Trust has confirmed the appointment of Catherine Randall and Liz Sedgley as Non-Executive Directors of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Catherine Randall holds over 37 years’ experience in the NHS, working strategically at national, regional, Integrated Care Board, Place and provider levels.

As a former Chief Nurse, Catherine focused on making a difference for a population with responsibility for NHS commissioning for acute, community and primary care as well as continuing healthcare, mental health and learning disabilities.

Her special interests include transformation, safeguarding, lived experience and mentoring. As a safeguarding leader, Catherine will bring a broader view, from her perspective on strategic safeguarding issues, patient and citizen experience to underpin our work.

In 2022, Catherine was awarded the honour of being a Queen’s Nurse.

Liz Sedgley is a qualified certified accountant who trained in general practice before moving into the fastest growing accountancy practise in the UK as an audit Manager. The role provided her with an insight into providing excellent customer service alongside exposure to the workings of multi-national organisations and rapidly expanding entrepreneurial businesses.

After starting a family, Liz set up her own business providing accountancy services across the North West where she acts as accountant, Finance Director and counsellor.

Liz has previously held the position as a Non-Executive Director at ELHT, serving eight years on the Board where she developed an interest in understanding and improving the patient's experience and helping to develop seamless care between hospital and community settings for the benefit of patients.

Her most recent Non-Executive appointment has been at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay (UHMB) NHS Foundation Trust where she has been for the last six years. During that time, she Chaired the Audit Committee and held the position of Vice Chair for the last four years.

Shazad Sarwar, Chairman of the Trust said: “We are extremely pleased to have Catherine and Liz joining us as Non-Executive Directors. Their specialist knowledge and vast experience will be a tremendous asset to our organisation and ultimately to our patients. We are delighted to have them as part of our team to support our provision of safe, personal and effective care to our communities.”
