Patients recovering at Burnley General Teaching Hospital’s Rakehead Rehabilitation Centre have received a major boost thanks to £2,895 of activity equipment donated by Fleetwood-based company, AGC Chemicals Europe.

The welcome donation enabled Rakehead staff to select three touch screen computers, a 5-in-1 games table, Echo Dot, laptop, DVD player and music system as items that will most benefit patients.

“We want to thank everyone at AGC Chemicals Europe for their generosity,” says Sister Pat Grimshaw.

"All the donated items – chosen by our Patient Forum and the Team for their therapeutic benefit – are proving hugely popular with the patients.”

“We have an activity room and TV lounge but the items donated by AGC Chemicals Europe really add to the options available, especially to keep our younger patients occupied,” added Sister Grimshaw.

To raise funds for the donation, AGC Chemicals Europe held an auction where employees could bid for unused IT equipment in aid of charity.

Rakehead is a 17-bed rehabilitation centre for patients with complex neurological needs, so the equipment, games and touch screen computers will benefit both patients and relatives visiting their loved ones. In addition, the donated laptop with apps is proving popular with patients currently rehabilitating in bed.
