ELHT Chief Executive, Kevin McGee and EG Group representative Harun Patel together with colleagues from NICU and the EG Group L-R Matron Caroline Cowman; Dr Dev Kumar; Zubair Desai; Javid Patel and Dr Meera Lama pictured with equipment bought with the EG Group donation.

Staff from the EG Group visited the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Burnley General Teaching Hospital to see the equipment bought from their recent generous donation of over £60,000.

Two, state-of-the-art Cerebral Function Monitors will provide simultaneous monitoring of different parts of a baby’s brain, while the new transcutaneous CO2 monitor will enable less invasive and much safer monitoring of very premature babies through their skin minimising the need for frequent blood tests.

Dr Dev Kumar, Consultant Neonatologist, explained the particular benefits of the equipment and spoke on behalf of all the staff, and indeed future parents of premature babies when he expressed his gratitude for the kindness of the EG Group. He said, ‘This will make an enormous difference to our tiniest and most vulnerable patients. Thank you so much for this gift, it will stand us in good stead for some time yet as the equipment is so advanced’.

EG Group has also donated equipment to benefit the Diabetes Department and have agreed to pay for a new outdoor children’s play area for the Children’s Ward at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital. Work is expected to begin soon.

Javed Patel from EG Group said, “We are really proud to be able to give this support to our local hospital Trust so that their services, which benefit the whole of this community, can be even better.”
