Families who have received care at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) are invited to a new regular coffee morning.
The coffee mornings, organised by the Trust’s Neonatal Community Team, are a safe space for families to meet others who have been through similar experiences, as well as a chance to take part in crafts, sensory play, singing and storytime. Older children are also welcome to attend alongside a parent or carer.
Community Neonatal Nurse Amy Knowles said: “We are delighted to be able to re-start our popular coffee mornings which are open to all our families, past or present.
“We know that many of our families whose babies were born poorly, premature or sick really value the chance to meet other parents and babies who have been on a similar journey to them, particularly those who have a child currently on NICU who can meet other babies who are now home and thriving.
“Whilst the mornings are an opportunity to receive peer support and signposting, there is also plenty of opportunities for crafts, sensory play and, of course, lots of singing.”
The coffee mornings take place on the first Monday of every month from 10am to 11.30am, including during summer holidays, at NICU, Burnley General Hospital and the third Wednesday of every month at the Zone, Burnley, BB11 1XD. The next events will take place on 7 August at NICU and 16 August at the Zone.
