I am conducting a survey as a concerned member of the public to better understand the policies and practices of businesses across the UK regarding the rights of employees and patrons who are legally prescribed medical cannabis.
As you may be aware, while cannabis remains illegal in the UK for recreational use, it is legally prescribed in the private sector for medical purposes. Unfortunately, despite the legality of medical cannabis, patients often face harassment and discrimination, which contradicts their legal rights.
To ensure that the rights of medical cannabis users are respected and upheld, I am seeking information on your company’s policy regarding the following:
- Employees:
- Does your company have a specific policy addressing the rights of employees who are legally prescribed medical cannabis?
- How does your company support employees who use medical cannabis to manage their health conditions?
- Are there any accommodations or considerations provided to employees who use medical cannabis, similar to other prescribed medications?
- Patrons:
- Does your company have a policy to ensure that patrons who are legally prescribed medical cannabis are not subjected to discrimination or harassment on your premises?
- How does your company train staff to handle situations involving patrons who use medical cannabis legally?
- Do you have accommodation requirements for patrons to follow like only using it in vape and smoking areas?
Rights of Legal Medical Cannabis Users:
It is important to note that legally prescribed medical cannabis users have the following rights:
- The right to use their prescribed medication as directed by a licensed healthcare professional.
- The right to privacy regarding their medical condition and treatment.
- The right to reasonable accommodations in the workplace, similar to those provided for other prescription medications.
- The right to access services and premises without discrimination based on their medical treatment.
Your participation in this survey will not only help in understanding current practices but will also contribute to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for medical cannabis users.
I would appreciate your response to the questions above at your earliest convenience. If you have any policies, guidelines, or training materials related to this matter, kindly include those in your response.
