The Monitoring and Targeting process is described below (quoted from our Trust’s Energy & carbon management Policy)
6.4 Monitoring and Targeting
6.4.1 The monthly energy consumption for each Hospital site shall be monitored and reported on a monthly basis by the Environment & Sustainability Manager. Any increase or decrease that is unexpected is investigated to find the cause of this deviation.
6.4.2 The Environment & Sustainability Manager will set ambitious energy reduction targets to achieve mandatory targets set by the UK government.
6.4.3 When buildings are refurbished or new buildings are constructed, as a minimum, each block shall have sub-meters installed for each energy source for that particular building.
6.4.4 All major new buildings must be validated through the use of BREEAM and achieve an ‘Excellent’ rating unless authorised by the Board. In addition they will be required to achieve an annual average energy performance target not worse than 35–55 GJ/100m3.
6.4.5 Major refurbishment projects in existing buildings may be validated through the use of BREEAM and achieve a ‘Very Good’ rating unless authorised by the Board. In addition they will be required to achieve an annual average energy performance target not worse than 55–65 GJ/100m3.
5) What percentage of your Trust energy consumption comes from fossil fuels?
A) 70%
6) Is your Trust taking any steps to reduce its energy consumption from fossil fuels? If so, please outline these steps.
A) Yes, installation of a combined Power and Heat plant in 2020/21 as a single opportunity to reduce the total fossil fuel consumption on site
