What we do

Neurorehabilitation Online (NROL) is a specialist interdisciplinary treatment option for patients currently receiving therapy from the Stroke or Neuro Rehab teams.

All therapy is provided online using Microsoft Teams to deliver a mix of cognitive, communication and physical therapy virtually via video call.

The NROL team is supported by a designated management/admin team but all sessions are delivered by current healthcare professionals from across the stroke and Neurorehabilitation teams in Lancashire and South Cumbria. This includes Rehabilitation Assistants, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Neuropsychologists and psychology practitioners.

The service is accessed via a referral from your current treating therapist and will be processed by our management team and IT support to ensure you’re set up correctly and able to access the groups appropriate for you and your ongoing rehabilitation

Prior to starting your sessions, a series of measures are completed to assess your current abilities, quality of life and then repeated at the end of the ‘block’ to monitor any changes. We also encourage feedback throughout the program and complete patient questionnaires for ongoing feedback to continually develop the service.

On completion of the program feedback will be provided to your referring therapist and any additional resources or support sent out via email for you to continue your rehab journey independently.

Additional information

As an integrated service within the neuro rehab and stroke therapy teams we offer an adjunct to current therapy

With designated IT provision this allows patients the support needed to get online and manage online groups over a 6-week program

Groups are tailored to the patients needs and continually develop and change to meet their needs

Groups are split into a mix of cognitive, communication and physical therapy depending on each patient’s needs.

Each session last approx. 60 mins and patients can attend groups across the week depending on what is appropriate for them in discussion with their referring therapist

At the beginning and end of each block, patients are kindly asked to complete questionnaires about the service they received. We take this patient feedback to continually improve and develop the NROL service.

How to access the service

Currently we only accept referrals from treating therapists in the stroke or neuro rehab team for patients who are receiving active therapy from these teams

Please discuss this with your treating therapist/s, if you think NROL may be helpful with your ongoing rehab journey.
