In Dementia tier 2 e-learning, there is a safeguarding section that makes reference to abuse in dementia care. However, this is not a mandatory training for staff at present.
In addition, during the Safeguarding Adults level 3 training (as well as HCA and international nurse induction training), there are discussions around false claims / statements in dementia and as a lived experience example, a story of a patient with dementia who was not woken up for personal care during the night and alleged they were sexual abused is provided.
The risk of abuse to vulnerable patients groups, like those with dementia, is also discussed along the process of supporting allegations of sexual abuse in the Trust.
