a) Letter/email reporting low chance combined or quadruple screen results
6 different letters are available and the appropriate letter is sent by post within 2 weeks of the screening test, depending on which test and whether the pregnancy is a singleton pregnancy or twins.
b) Letter/email reporting high chance combined or quadruple screen results
Women with a high chance result are telephoned and invited in for a face to face consultation to discuss the screen results (within 3 working days) and what further options/diagnostic testing are available to them. They are given a copy of the result and it is recorded in the book 1 hand held record and the hospital notes. Occasionally women will wish an initial discussion over the phone before attending an appointment. No formal letter is sent but occasionally the woman will request the result via email.
c) Letter/email reporting low chance NIPT results.
Women are contacted by telephone with a low probability result and are given it verbally. It is then backed up with a copy of the results and a letter explaining the results in the post.

d) Letter/email reporting high chance NIPT results
Women with a high probability result are contacted by telephone with the result and invited in for a face to face consultation with the screening midwife and fetal medicine consultant to discuss the result. They are given a copy of the result at the consultation and offered a letter to accompany the consultation explaining the result if they would like one. Not all women wish a letter. Women are offered diagnostic testing for confirmation.
e) Letter/email reporting ‘no result’ NIPT results
There is no formal letter for a ‘no result’. Women are told by telephone contact and are invited in for an appointment
f) Letter/email reporting negative QF-PCR/FISH CVS results
Women are contacted and informed by telephone of all negative results. There is no formal letter for a negative result.
g) Letter/email reporting positive QF-PCR/FISH CVS results
Women are contacted by telephone with the result and invited in for a consultation with the screening midwife and the fetal medicine consultant to discuss the result. There is no formal letter for a positive result.
h) Letter/email reporting negative full karyotype CVS results
Women are contacted and informed by telephone with a negative full karyotype result. There is no formal letter for this result.
i) Letter/email reporting positive full karyotype CVS results
Women are contacted by telephone and invited in for a consultation with the screening midwife and the fetal medicine consultant to discuss the result. There is no formal letter for this result.
j) Letter/email reporting negative amniocentesis result
Women are contacted and informed by telephone with a negative result. There is no formal letter for this result.
k) Letter/email reporting positive amniocentesis result
Women are contacted and informed by telephone and invited in for a consultation with the screening midwife and the fetal medicine consultant to discuss the result. There is no formal letter for this result.
Any women who request a copy of any negative diagnostic results can do so and can either receive it face to face or by post or email
Copies of positive results are given face to face.
