Supporting Children and Young People who come into contact with the Youth Justice Services across Pennine Lancashire

The overall aim of the IMHT is to support the emotional health and well-being of children and young people between the ages of 10-18 years involved with the Youth Justice Services across Pennine Lancashire (PLYJS). The Team provides enhanced access to the assessment and intervention for those with severe and complex mental health problems. 

How the IMHT Supports Children and Young People

The team operates a clinical model that includes assessment, consultation and brief intervention that provides the following:

  • Consultation with professionals who are supporting the child/young person within the PLYJS including the provision of resources for mental health support
  • A range of rapid access specialist mental health assessments to meet the needs of the children and young people whilst open to PLYJS. 
  • A wide range of evidence-based therapeutic interventions including risk support, psychoeducation, individual therapy, family work and group work on a needs-led and age-appropriate basis
  • Training to staff within the PLYJS and ELCAS as required
  • Undertake periodic evaluation, audit and research to ensure optimal quality and efficiency
  • Signposting to local and/or regional specialist mental health services as clinically appropriate

Accessing the IMHT

The IMHT will only accept referrals from Youth Justice Services or from ELCAS.  The team works flexibly to promote engagement with children and young people.
