When you’re affected by cancer, having the right kind of information and support, at the right time, is essential. The Macmillan Cancer Information Service at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital provides a confidential drop-in service for anyone affected by cancer. This includes people who;

  • Require information about cancer
  • Have a cancer diagnosis
  • Have survived cancer
  • Are living with the consequences of a cancer diagnosis
  • Are looking to reduce the risks of cancer
  • Are a carer, relative or friend of someone with cancer
  • Are healthcare professionals

Staffed by a Macmillan Information and Support Manager, a Macmillan Information Assistant and trained volunteers, we are able to provide:

  • Literature on all aspects of living with cancer
  • Information prescriptions
  • Internet access to guide people to appropriate information resources
  • The opportunity to discuss treatments, side effects and other cancer related issues
  • A comfortable area where you can talk to someone in private
  • Information and support over the phone for those not able to access the service in person

  • Links to clinical teams treating certain cancers
  • Links to local and national support services
  • Referral to other available support services
  • Signposting to self help and support groups
  • Links to other voluntary and statutory agencies
  • Cancer awareness educational notice boards
  • Access to benefits advice

We would like to thank our team of excellent volunteers for supporting the service.
