A laundry has existed on what is now the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital site for at least 100 years. In 2005, the Laundry moved to a new modern, efficient plant on the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital site. Clean linen is provided to all sites within the Trust, however, we do not provide towels or night wear. Patients must bring their own with them for use during their stay.
Quality and process management are built into all aspects of the Laundry operation, the system is certified to ISO9001:2008.
Within the laundry is a Clean Room Facility that is also certified to ISO 13485:2003, Medical Devices and these systems extend into and enhance the whole department.
The key component of running a quality laundry service is investment in staff. There is a comprehensive internal training process which produces a skilled, flexible workforce. In recent years this has been strengthened by the introduction of NVQ level 2 in Laundry Operations.
The department has a low rate of staff turnover, the resulting experience and skills within the staff group contributes greatly to a high quality standard.
The managers and supervisors within the department are all very experienced within NHS Linen Services.
