The caring, compassion and dedication of NHS staff from across East Lancashire was recognised at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust’s (ELHT) annual awards ceremony on Friday (27 April). 

Fifteen awards were presented to teams and individuals from across the Trust who go above and beyond to provide excellent healthcare to the people of East Lancashire.

Kevin McGee, ELHT Chief Executive, told staff during the glamorous event at the Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel:

“Congratulations to the winners and the 300+ staff who were shortlisted and nominated for this year’s STAR Awards.

“I believe the huge number of nominations from both patients and colleagues truly reflects the outstanding efforts of our exceptional staff to provide the best possible quality of care to patients.”

"Our STAR Awards are an incredible opportunity to celebrate and recognise the high quality standard of care that staff deliver to so many patients across East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen.”

Following an extensive selection process, a whopping 329 nominations were whittled down by a panel of independent judges to the final shortlist.
After lengthy deliberation, the East Lancashire Hospitals STAR Awards winners for 2018 are:

Non-Clinical Worker of the Year: Kathryn Heyworth, Business Support Manager, Complex Case Team

Clinical Worker of the Year: Jennifer Wadsworth, Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Hepatology, Gastroenterology

Unsung Hero Award: Val Clowrey, Patient Services Assistant, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Patient Choice Award: Jennifer Wadsworth, Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Hepatology

Outstanding Achievement Award: Sue Henry, Baby Friendly Team Leader

Quality, Innovation and Research Award: Specialist Paediatric Respiratory Team (SPORT) Physiotherapists

Employee of the Year: Performance and Informatics (I.T. Team)

Rising Star Award: Nicola Broxup, Clinical Team Leader, District Nursing

Role Model of the Year: Sister Hayley Houldsworth, Ward C9

Compassionate Care Award: Pamela Kay, Specialist Wellbeing Practitioner, Occupational Health 

Leadership Award: Dr Meera Lama, Consultant Neonatologist

Volunteer of the Year: Learners Lounge (Dave Thomas, Moya Thomas, Beverley Burrows, Sally Sumner)

non-Clinical Team of the Year: Capital Project Team (Mark Riley, Mark Penny, Amy-Jane Evans, Clare Boyd)
