East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust has today announced some temporary changes to the services provided at Accrington Victoria Community Hospital.

Sharon Gilligan, Director of Operations at the Trust said “In the current unprecedented conditions, and as we do everything we can to address Covid-19, we have made the decision to concentrate  staffing resources  onto our two main acute sites at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital.”

With effect from 8.30pm on Wednesday 25 March, the Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) and associated X-Ray service at Accrington Victoria Community Hospital will close temporarily, until further notice.  Patients are asked to attend the MIU at Rossendale Health Centre, Bacup Road, Rawtenstall, BB4 7PL, or the urgent care centres at either Burnley General or Royal Blackburn Teaching hospitals instead.

Local GPs have been advised that they will be able to direct patients to X-Ray services at Rossendale Health Centre;  Barbara Castle Way, Blackburn; or Burnley General Teaching Hospital on Mondays to Fridays between the hours of 9am and 5pm.

Mrs Gilligan added “We realise that this may cause some inconvenience, but we are sure that our staff, patients and community understand that we need to concentrate our resources where they will have the most effect.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff for their amazing work and for our patients’ for their understanding and ongoing support during these unprecedented times.”

This applies to the MIU and associated X-Ray services only; the GP surgery at Accrington Victoria Hospital and any outpatient services there are not affected by these changes.
