Staff and patients at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital were delighted to receive a new music player and bingo resources for ward C10.
The gifts were purchased by the hospital’s charity, ELHT&Me, the official hospital charity that raises funds to improve patient experience beyond standard NHS funding. Monetary donations to the charity allow staff and patients to make suggestions and request items that suit their needs best, to make their experience in hospital more comfortable, which the charity can purchase on their behalf.
The ward requested the items as they wanted to provide some more social activities on the ward, particularly for patients who don’t receive many visits, and create a community atmosphere.
Laura Forster, Housekeeper on Ward C10 who requested the items, said “I just wanted to say a very big thank you to everyone who has made a financial donation to the charity, allowing us to buy the CD player and the bingo resources.
“I am sure that they will help to pass the time for many of our patients, and help the ones that don’t have visitors to feel more included. Games and music will give them the chance to be more involved with other patients.”
Denise Gee, Fundraising Manager at ELHT&Me, said: “This is another great example of the difference monetary donations to ELHT&Me make to the hospital and our patients. Financial donations, as opposed to gifts, empower our staff and patients to choose what would be best for them, and the charity is able to allocate that funding to provide exactly what they request.”
“When you make a donation, you can choose to allocate the money to a specific ward or department, or you can make a general donation – but the money is always spent improving patient experience and purchasing things that make a real difference.”
