A maternity support worker (MSW) from Burnley has been honoured with a Chief Midwifery Officer (CMidO) Award for her outstanding contributions to maternity care.
The coveted national award recognises those who excel in their role and have made a significant impact on maternity care and services.
Keelie Barrett, who is a MSW Clinical Educator, was nominated by colleagues for her leadership and training of other maternity support workers.
She plays a pivotal role in both recruiting and supporting new colleagues and has been instrumental in the development of East Lancashire Hospitals Trust’s maternity apprenticeship programme.
Keelie said: “I feel truly honoured to receive this prestigious award. I have always been someone who has strived to champion others and over the last decade have been involved locally, regionally and nationally in raising the profile of maternity support workers (MSW's).
“This award, whilst recognising my work, helps to raise the profile of MSWs and the specialist supportive role they have in maternity care.”
The CMidO Awards reward the significant and outstanding contribution made by nurses and midwives in England and their exceptional contribution to nursing and midwifery practice.
Practice Education Lead Midwife, Cheryl Lee, praised Keelie: “Keelie is a valuable member of the team who has consistently demonstrated care and empathy, even during the most stressful times.
“Her commitment to both her colleagues and the women we serve is truly commendable.”
Keelie’s award highlights her dedication to improving the quality of care for women and their families in East Lancashire, as well as her role in driving innovation and excellence within the team.
