Walkers are being encouraged to take part in the legendary Morecambe Bay Walk this June to help raise funds for local hospital care.
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust’s hospital charity ELHT&Me has a place on the challenging 8-10 milers from Arnside to Grange-over-Sands to help raise funds to enhance patient experience across the Trust’s hospitals and community healthcare services.
The scenic trek is organised by the Kings Guide to the Sands, Michael Wilson, who, supported by a team of volunteers, will safely lead walkers across the ever-changing bay. This year marks the seventh time that ELHT&Me has had the privilege to take part in the historic walk – a tradition that dates back to 1548.
Head of Charity, Denise Barrett-Wilson said: “Each year we’re overwhelmed by the amount of support we receive and the number of willing walkers ready to take on this stunning challenge.
“Last year we saw a record 200 supporters sign up and raised just under £4,000 for ELHT&Me. This was truly incredible and will make a huge difference to our patients, so thank you to each and every one of you who took part or sponsored someone.”
Whether you are an experienced walker or simply fancy a scenic stroll with your four-legged friend, everyone is welcome – including the hospital’s much-loved therapy dog Alfie, who will be putting his best paw forward once again!
The walk will take place on Saturday, 6 June, setting off promptly at 9.30am from Arnside. The route covers varied terrain including sand, shingle, pebbles, rock and salt marsh and takes around four hours to complete, depending on conditions and the safest path chosen on the day.
