Lancashire Fire and Rescue Team donate 25 iPads to East Lancashire Hospitals Trust
A generous gift of 25 iPads has been donated by Lancashire Fire and Rescue to our hospital charity, ELHT&Me as part of a compassionate effort to safely bring families and patients together through ‘virtual visits’.
At a time when suspension of hospital visits is a necessary step to secure the safety of the community, the Spiritual Care Team at East Lancashire Hospitals Trust have been utilising technology to bridge the emotional gap of social distancing. The donation from Lancashire Fire and Rescue team is a welcomed addition to the 90 iPads the Trust has already been using to connect families through video calling.
iPads are being offered to patients with special circumstances; those who are severely ill with Covid-19 and those who are receiving end of life care. The iPads allow families to be together in a way that gives them some ability to provide that personal level of comfort and care.
David Anderson, from the Spiritual Care Team said: “It is important to maintain professionalism to keep others safe, but it is also important to be aware of our humanity. It can mean a lot to families to see their love one, one last time.”
