ELHT is proud to support Emergency Services Day today, 9 September 2020.
Emergency Services Day (also known as 999 Day) is is backed by the Prime Minister and First Ministers of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales and is a day where people can support the heroic men and women of the NHS and emergency services.
#999Day promotes the work of the emergency services, promotes using the emergency services responsibly, educates the public about basic lifesaving skills, and promotes the many career and volunteering opportunities available.
Chief Executive, Kevin McGee, said: “National Emergency Services day gives us a real opportunity to highlight the outstanding efforts of our staff and partners.
“This includes everyone in the organisation who works tirelessly to ensure we continue to support our communities every day. The response of everyone in the NHS and others to the COVID-19 pandemic has been amazing and days like this are timely reminders of how dedicated and professional members of the emergency services are.
“It goes without saying that this would not be possible without our partners and all the other outstanding organisations who step up when we are called upon to assist, and sometimes in the very darkest hours."
The charity behind the event is National Emergency Services Memorial (NESM). They hope to raise more than £2 million to build the first national cenotaph dedicated to the courage and sacrifice of public servants.
The monument would honour the 7,000-plus personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty and give thanks to the more than one million people working in the sector today.
