Four community nurses at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust have been given the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse.

Amanda Prescott, Amy Rogers, Rebecca Smith and Debbie Hood, who all work in the Trust’s Family & Community Care Group, were handed the accolade by nursing charity The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) for their commitment to high standards of patient care, learning and leadership.

It follows a rigorous application process which required detailed evidence of professional practice and feedback from colleagues, patients and families.

Clinical Team Leader for Rossendale West District Nurses, Debbie Hood, said: "I am so proud to receive the Queen's Nurse award. It is more than just a title, it is representative and a recognition of the values that I incorporate into the care of my patients everyday, and it is an honour to receive it. I can use the title to continue to support my colleagues and champion excellence and innovation in community nursing."

Deputy Chief Nurse, Jane Pemberton, said: "Amanda, Amy, Rebecca and Debbie are all brilliant leaders and role models in community nursing and consistent advocates for delivering patient-centred care. It's fantastic to see them recognised.

"As a Queen's Nurse myself, I know how rigorous the assessment process is and they should be really proud of this achievement."

Divisional Director of Nursing, Cheryl Forrest, said: “Being awarded the Queen’s Nurse title is a truly remarkable achievement. It reflects not only a commitment to the highest standard of nursing care but also a dedication to compassion, leadership and innovation in practice. It is a prestigious recognition that celebrates both professional excellence and the positive impact made of patients, families and communities. It’s an honour that highlights the very best of nursing.”

The QNI is dedicated to improving the nursing care of people  in their own homes. The Nurse’s Award recognises nurses who consistently deliver high quality compassionate care and who make a difference to the people they support.

Community nurses are a vital part of the services provided by East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, delivering care closer to home and supporting people to remain as independent and well as possible in their usual place of residence.
