East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust’s charity ELHT&Me launched its first-ever charity football tournament and raised over £3,000 to help enhance patient care within the Trust.
The fundraising day, ‘Goals for Good’, held at Great Harwood Rovers Football Club on Saturday, 23 May was a winning result on and off the pitch after 12 teams booked on to battle it out to become top of the league.
The friendly seven‑a‑side tournament included players from community groups, local businesses and ELHT staff who were cheered on by supporters as they performed like champions with team ‘Ball of Duty’ - made up by some of the Trust’s Physio team - lifting the tournament trophy after the final knockout.
More than 200 people enjoyed the family-filled event. Free for spectators, Goals for Good also had games and activities, raffle and lucky dips and refreshments to cater for everyone on and off the pitch.
Fundraising Officer for ELHT&Me, Sharon Davies said: "In total, an overwhelming £3,147.61 was raised, including a special shout-out to ‘Bums and Tums’ team - made up by some of the Trust’s Endoscopy team - who raised £475.
“This has been such a fantastic day for such a worthy cause; showing true community spirit in all its glory.
“Thanks to every single person who came along to support. From the players to the cheering crowd, the stallholders and of course Great Harwood Rovers Football Club and our sponsors Watson Ramsbottom Solicitors and MyLahore it’s been a day to remember.
“Every penny raised will help us make hospital stays for patients and their loved ones that little bit better - and that’s all down to the funding raised, so thank you, you have made a huge difference.”
