What is Speech and Language Therapy?

Speech and language therapy is  a healthcare profession focused on assessing, diagnosing and treating communication and swallowing difficulties in both children and adults. It encompasses a range of interventions to improve an individual's ability to communicate effectively, eat, drink, and swallow. 

What is Dietetics?

Dietetics is the professional application of the science of nutrition in health and disease to all groups of people.

Dietitians can provide nutritional assessment and advice on how best to meet nutritional requirements of individual patients.  They can work on a one to one basis or with groups as well as liaising where appropriate with relatives, carers and other health care professionals. 

What is Orthotics?

Orthotics is the branch of medicine that deals with the provision of artificial devices such as splints and braces. 

The Orthotic Department provides a wide range of orthoses for all parts of the body. An orthosis is an external device that is used to correct, accommodate or maintain good positioning of bones and joints by helping to rest, protect or support you. This may help your mobility and function or in some cases will be used to stop movement if this is required as part of your treatment.
