What Our Patients Say

Explained everything I needed to know

Thank you so much Emily.  I really do appreciate all your help and I genuinely feel like a weight has been taken from my mind and that I am now seeing the right people who can help with my recovery.

I felt such a relief to have the opportunity to discuss my ongoing injuries, symptoms and care with someone.  Emily was really wonderful and provided not only a professional services but a real compassion and reassurance.  She spent time addressing my referral issues and I now have an appointment to see the correct specialist.

April 2025

The Major Trauma Rehabilitation Coordinator (MTRC) service aims to review/ assess and co-ordinate care for all patients admitted with a Major Trauma (MT) eligible Injury. We are an inpatient service covering all the acute wards including ED at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

The MTRC service coordinates care pathways and ensures a robust rehabilitation plan is in place for all major trauma patients who require it. As MTRC’s we utilise advanced clinical skills to optimise care, coordinate rehabilitation, action referrals to appropriate specialties and expedite early supported discharge for MT patients. We work collaboratively with medical colleagues to support patients throughout their rehabilitation journey.

The role acts as a point of contact for repatriations, patients, relatives, and the variety of specialties that can be involved during the end-to-end care pathway of MT patients, from acute through to the community.

The MTRC service also runs a MTRC outpatient telephone clinic.

Referrals to the service are made by health professionals via an internal bleep system.

Out of hours: referrals can also be made by health professionals by emailing MTRC@elht.nhs.uk or if urgent via the internal bleep system.

The Major Trauma Rehabilitation Coordinator Service is based in the Acute Therapy Department, Royal Blackburn Hospital.

The Team provide assessments, the co-ordination of the care pathway, rehabilitation planning and goal setting, onward referrals, reverse transfer management, completion of rehabilitation prescription and rehabilitation plans for major trauma patients.

The service operates Monday - Friday 8.00am - 4.00pm.

There are 2 Major Trauma Rehabilitation Co-ordinators and a Major Trauma Clinical Director in the team.
