What we do
This is a short stay unit where children with minor illness are seen and assessed by experienced Childrens nurses and paediatric doctors.
Children who are unwell can be observed for a few hours with the aim of being discharged home.
The unit also undertakes some investigations as deemed necessary and liaises with other professionals such as health visitors, school nurses, safeguarding, physiotherapists and dieticians.
Children may also be referred for intravenous therapy (possibly following in-patient admission), re passing of naso-gastric tubes.
How to access the service
The unit receives referrals from GP surgeries, the Urgent Care Centre at Burnley, midwives and nurse practitioners.

We are co-located within the Urgent Care Centre.

Children are accepted at the unit from 10am – 6:30pm Monday to Friday. (The Unit is available for advice until 8pm).
Parents or relatives are advised to stay with their child until discharged or transferred to Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital. A maximum of two visitors per patient is recommended.

There is a hospital restaurant and WHSmith shop on site.
