Prior to joining East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust in April 2020 as a Non-Executive Direction, Stephen was the Managing Director at BAE Systems and had been in that post since 2011. He lives within the Preston area and has personal links with healthcare, one of his daughters is a midwife and the other is a doctor. He also has an interest in transferring his commercial experience to a non-executive role.
During the course of his career Stephen has been involved in leading large scale and complex engineering programmes/businesses and cultural change programmes. He is the Chair of BAE Systems Early Careers Steering Board and has been the Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Steering Board at BAE Systems.
In addition he has led changes to the approach to mental health with the conception of an Awareness Programme across the business and has previously been asked to Chair a UK review of mental health support provision and associated policies across BAE Systems.
Stephen is currently a member of the Pride of Place Board for Blackpool and Chair of the new Fylde Coast Responsible Business Network. He is the National Apprentice Ambassador and a member of the UK Apprentice Ambassador Network (AAN). He is also a member of WorldSkills UK Champions Programme Advisory Group supporting research into Social Mobility, Diversity and Inclusion in the UK. Steve has recently been appointed the Chairman of the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership.
